What does contemporary China’s diverse and exciting fiction tell us about its culture, and the relationship between art and politics?
The Subplot takes us on a lively journey through a literary landscape like you’ve never seen before: a vast migrant-worker poetry movement, homoerotic romances by rotten girls, swaggering literary popstars, millionaire e-writers churning out the longest-ever novels, underground comics, the surreal works of Yu Hua, Yan Lianke, and Nobel-laureate Mo Yan, and what is widely hailed as a golden-age of sci-fi. Chinese online fiction is now the largest publishing platform in the world.
Fueled by her passionate engagement with the arts and ideas of China’s people, Megan Walsh, a brilliant young critic, shows us why it’s important to finally pay attention to Chinese fiction–an exuberant drama that illustrates the complex relationship between art and politics, one that is increasingly shaping the West as well. Turns out, writers write neither what their government nor foreign readers want or expect, as they work on a different wavelength to keep alive ideas and events that are censored by the propaganda machine. The Subplot vividly captures the way in which literature offers an alternative–perhaps truer–way to understanding the contradictions that make up China itself.

Some really great & pioneering sf, right enough.
With such repressive regimes, it’s all the more necessary to, as Emily advised, “Tell all the Truth but tell it slant, Success in Circuit lies, — The Truth must dazzle gradually Or every man be blind” (or blinded).

>a golden-age of sci-fi
>Chinese online fiction…(the) largest publishing platform in the world
>writers write (not) what their government…want(s) or expect(s)
>censored by the propaganda machine
someone might fall for this

I forgot:
>a literary landscape like you’ve never seen before:…homoerotic romances…millionaire e-writers…and Nobel-laureate Mo Yan
‘BUT AT WHAT COST?!’
(The ‘left’ says China oppresses gays, the ‘right’ claims there is no middle class, let alone millionaires in China, and both cry there is no free expression. Meanwhile western ‘democracies’ are submitting bills to deport undesirables and arresting people who tell the truth about genocide being supported, funded, and cheered on by their governments.)
Just more evidence of savage hate-boner in ‘the west’ for anyone that their barbarity can’t completely dominate or silence forever.

@Dallis24 I’ve been seeding as soon as received notification in DM. Didn’t change anything and everything works fine on my end. Never had problems like this since I started uploading, so not sure what to do if you are still having trouble at this point.

I’ve had this issue lots. and lot’s of times. How I solve it is simply to go to the downloaded file (Usually marked part or temp) and give it a file type. mp3 M4A, or M4B whatever the file type is. And the problem is solved.
Works with anything 90%+ with hardly any issues. Works with 95%+ with no issues I’ve ever found.
Hope this helps.
If Mastrum is trying to download - No it’s not a conspiracy. lol

On a different issue. During my degree more than half the class were Chinese students. Some coming to the UK with their Husband and child. They couldn’t believe the stories of life in their country. One lady (Aged around 40) said they lived better than the areas of Hull (UK) she had seen.
Propaganda is a bitch! You then see the fantastic cars they export and the low costs, Damn that must hurt the Capitalist Oligarchies we believe to be democracies.
