A really good literary critic can transform the way you understand a specific work, or even how you read in general. I don’t know James Woods’ work, but only last November an offhand remark by Cathy Shrank (whom I’d likewise never heard of before coming across some of her commentary here) opened up Astrophil and Stella to me (a work I’d struggled with for decades).
So I’ll certainly give this one a spin.
